Why your shop disappears after 6pm

Opening hours are a ranking input. What after-hours searches see, and how to fix it.

FF The FirstFind team

A shop owner once searched 'mechanic near me' on his way home and couldn't find his own business. At 2pm he ranked third. At 6:30pm he was gone. Nothing was broken - that's how local search works.

Google checks your hours before it ranks you

When someone searches after closing time, Google quietly favors businesses that are open. If your profile says 'closes 5pm', evening searchers - including people whose cars have just broken down - see your competitors with evening hours instead.

Why this costs auto shops more than most

Car trouble doesn't keep business hours. A large share of 'towing', 'tire repair', and 'mechanic near me' searches happen in the evening and on weekends - exactly when profiles with tight listed hours vanish from the results.

What to check this week

  • ✓Your listed hours match reality - including Saturdays
  • ✓If you offer after-hours drop-off or towing, say so in your services and description
  • ✓'Open 24 hours' only if it's true - wrong hours earn angry reviews
  • ✓Holiday hours set in advance, not after the missed calls
The bottom line

You can't rank during hours you've told Google you're closed. Make sure the hours on your profile describe the business you actually run.
